Spring is a Great Time for Change

Our little cottage for the summer!

Our little cottage for the summer!

So, spring has finally sprung. Not that you would know it by the past couple of days if you didn’t see the flowers. It has been cold and wet and kind of miserable. It seems to me that if the cold and wet had come right after all that cold and snow, we wouldn’t have minded nearly so much. However, it gives us warm, beautifully sunny days, and then throws us back into the yuck. Not entirely fair if you ask me.

Time has been simply wacky around here lately. The kids are busy in their own sports and schooling and all of that fun stuff. The girl has taken on volleyball and the boy soccer – and both are loving their choices. I have started my own business – officially I suppose. I have been freelance writing for 12 years now, but up until now I had things here and there – proofreading, editing, writing, etc. – and one main client that I wrote for on a regular basis. The main client was the bulk of my work and after 8 years of writing literally over 100 articles a month for him, the company went under. This left me with a whole lot of time on my hands and a determination to build up the rest of my business so that I could continue to be a SAHM. With Jinnai going off to school next year, it became all too apparent that not only was I having more down time now than I was used to, but that it was about to get a whole lot scarier! What does one do when they have spent all of their time with their kids, 24/7 and then you have sooooo many hours without them? I suppose I shall find out soon enough!

At any rate – I created a website (yup, something not really in my skill set but I am pretty proud of either way) and you can check it out at JoanneRuscella.com. Let me know what you think – if there is anything you would like me to add that you think might be missing and what-not. ┬áThis site will continue to be my heart of course, but the other one is now for my business work, and so far so good. I have picked up a couple of small here-and-there type clients, and I have one client that is through a friend of mine that is an ongoing project which is very exciting. I have done online content editing for so long now that moving into other areas of social media marketing was kind of scary at first, but I have found that the more I learn about it the more I am amazed by it. So wish me luck!

This summer we are headed to Flat Rock, NC. The state theatre of Flat Rock Playhouse has hired my hubby and me for the summer to work on their educational program. JJ has created a whole new summer education program for them which

is truly exciting and I will be administrating it. This means another summer away from Winchester though, which is becoming a yearly thing now. Our first summer here we spent in FL and Manteo, and then last summer we spent most of it in Florida as well. This year it is NC. Go figure! I will still be doing my freelance thing, JJ’s role is much bigger than mine so I will have more free time than him, but I am still excited to be helping out. The president of the BOD has given us their cottage for the summer, which is super cute (we saw it in March) and of course our pup is going with us. Had he not been able to go, well, that would have been the end of our summer plans because we don’t go anywhere without him!

What are your summer plans? Anything exciting? I think the kids are excited about exploring somewhere new and taking the acting and filmmaking camps – they will be busier than any of us!

Have a great spring! ( I added some more photos of the cottage at the bottom!)
